Maintenance Modules
(1) Rolling Bearings

This module covers the different types of rolling bearings and their uses, the selection of the appropriate type of rolling bearing depending on the conditions under which it will be used, installation and removal techniques and the causes of premature wear of rolling bearings.

(2) Lubrication

This module covers the theory of friction, the different kinds of lubricants, their properties and their applications, the different methods of lubrication and solutions to a number of lubrication problems.

(3) Basic Pneumatics

This module covers the principles and laws related to compressed air, the main physical properties of gases, the symbols of the main components of pneumatic systems and their functions, how to read and interpret a basic pneumatics system layout plan and the principles of the SFC method.

(4) Basic Hydraulics

This module covers the principles and laws of hydraulics, the characteristics of hydraulic fluids, the basic components of a hydraulic circuit and their operation, the various symbols representing hydraulic components and how to read and understand simple hydraulic-system diagrams.

(5) Seals

This module covers the various types of seals and their applications, the difference between static seals and dynamic seals, the assembly requirements of the various types of seals and the causes of seal failure.

(6) Heating and Cutting

This module covers the different gas welding techniques, the working principle of plasma welding and cutting and the principle of the metallisation of mechanical components.

(7) Couplings

This module covers the function of the various types of couplings, the selection of the correct size of coupling for the speed of rotation and the power of the motor and the assembly and disassembly of couplings using schematic diagrams and established safety standards.

(8) Chain Drives

This module covers the different categories of chains and sprockets, the principles of chain drives, the assembly and disassembly of a chain drive system and the operating problems with chain drive systems as well as their causes and corrective procedures.

(9) Belt Drives

This module covers the various categories of belts and pulleys, the principles of belt drives, the assembly and disassembly of a belt drive system and the operating problems with belt-drives as well as their causes and corrective measures.

(10) Speed Reducers

This module covers the different types of speed reducers, their applications and principles of operation, the components of a speed reducer, how to check the condition of speed-reducer components, how to analyze the causes of speed-reducer breakdowns, take corrective measures to prevent their recurrence and carry out repairs and the assembly and disassembly of speed reducers.

(11) Arc Welding

This module covers the safety factors related to arc welding (handling, setting-up, adjustments, control), the operating principles of the various electric-arc welding processes and how to select the proper electrodes depending on the metals and the welding conditions.

(12) Compressors

This module covers the different types of compressors and their specific applications, the function of compressor components, the adjustments required for the proper operation of compressors and the causes of compressor breakdowns and the corrective measures to prevent their recurrence.

(13) Fans and Blowers

This module covers the operation of various types of fans and blowers and the diagnosis of fan and blower operating problems.

(14) Blueprint Reading

This module covers the description of the lines and symbols on a blueprint and how to read and interpret the various types of blueprint drawings, views and projections.

(15) Handling Materials

This module covers the different types of lifting and handling devices, how to estimate the weight to be lifted and the capacities of cables and chains, how to lift, move and set down heavy parts in accordance with safety standards and the description of lifting, moving and rotation mechanisms and commands as well as the safety devices associated with each piece of equipment.

(16) Portable Tools

This module covers how to choose portable tools and use them safely, how to maintain portable tools in good repair, how to sharpen a drill bit and the uses of the various types of drill bits.

(17) Measuring Instruments

This module covers the basic principles of precision, errors and tolerances, how to identify and measure the dimensions of machine parts and how to choose and use appropriate measuring instruments.

(18) Conveyors

This module covers the various types of conveyors, their components and their uses, the methods used to change belts and make a mechanical splice (using fasteners or vulcanisation), how to align a conveyor and how to identify and solve problems involving the operation of conveyors.

(19) Installation of Machines

This module covers the different grades of cement, their characteristics and their main components, the different methods used to anchor machines to concrete slabs and the design principles of the forms into which concrete is poured.

(20) Vibration Analysis

This module covers the basic principles of vibration analysis, the use of vibration analysis to detect equipment operating problems and the identification of possible sources of noise and vibration of equipment.

(21) Pumps – Types

This module covers the different types of pumps, their uses, their components and their operating principles.

(22) Pumps – Problem Solving, Decision Making and Maintenance

This module covers the problems that can be encountered with pumps, their causes and possible solutions and pump inspection, lubrication and maintenance.

(23) Pumps – Assembly, Disassembly, Start-up and Shutdown

This module covers the logical sequence for pump assembly and disassembly as well as the tools to be used.

(24) Alignment

This module covers the basic principles of alignment, how to perform an alignment using the traditional method and how to do laser alignment.
